End Road Socialism!

I recently sent the following e-mail to the Libertarian Party of Utah:

As part of Obama’s stimulus plan, the State of Utah is (thus far) going to receive 10.8 Billion dollars, and plans to spend about 70% of it on highway expansion, according to Transportation for America. In addition to being a big federal boondoggle, this is going to be an environmental and health disaster. Salt Lake City is quickly becoming one of the worst cites to live in as far as air quality is concerned. As an asthmatic, I ought to know. And as a libertarian, I find this unacceptable, and consider both the resulting negative economic and environmental effects as a form of aggression. Does Utah LP plan on doing anything about it? Your platform states that you favor the privatization rather than state subsidy of public transportation. But how about the fact that we live under a regime of “road socialism”? If you do not favor the socialization of cost for public transport, there is at least an equal argument against the same for its “private” counterpart.

If you agree with me, why don’t you visit their web site and second my protest? Hey, the partyarchy ought to be good for something!

Oh, and while I was there, I learned that there’s going to be and “End the Fed” rally in front of the Utah Federal Reserve Bank on April 25th. Awesome!

  1. Ooh, it’s a Saturday too. I’m so there.
